Barnlake House Kennels – Our commitment

What do you want for your dog when you choose a Boarding Kennels? You want to know that he will be safe. That he will be as happy as he can be away from home, and that his health will be supervised by staff knowledgeable in animal husbandry and nursing. And that the people who look after him have experience, a love of animals and a responsible attitude.

At Barnlake much thought and planning has gone into providing trouble-free accommodation for your dogs.

Visitors are welcome at Barnlake House any time during opening hours or by appointment.

For information of prices for boarding or training please contact us by email or phone and we will send you the tariff.

Accommodation

Each dog has his own apartment in roomy, well-ventilated indoor kennels, protected from threat from other inmates by solid dividing walls, while he can see out at the front and into the yard to pass the time. We provide beds, but he can bring his own bed or blanket if you wish. There is a special area of kennelling for small dogs, so that they are not alarmed by the big dogs. Heat lamps are provided free of charge in the colder months, or at a small extra charge if requested in the warmer weather.

Feeding

The dogs are fed Skinners Duck and Rice, a hypo-allergenic food free from wheat, maize, barley, soya and dairy products. – not cheap but trouble-free from a digestion and palatability point of view. The only complaints we get are that the dogs are not so keen on their own food when they go home! (So we sell the food as well). Alternative foods are kept in case of need. Adult dogs are fed twice a day, puppies having three meals a day. Special diets can be accommodated.

Keeping Happy

The dogs are exercised individually twice a day on a long lead around the paths in our own field. Most dogs boarding with us are pets, therefore they are used to human contact and enjoy this period with a person as their special time. As soon as a new dog has been out for a walk we see a big difference in him – he settles down and becomes more confident and relaxed.

Health, Hygiene and Insurance

A specially formulated non-toxic kennel disinfectant is used so that it need not be sluiced away, and all surfaces are protected from infection at all times.  In case of illness your own Vet will be called (as long as they are local). Vet’s bills are covered by our Insurance subject to the Conditions as stated. All animals must be accompanied by an up-to-date Vaccination Certificate.

Finally ……

The methods we use are not the cheapest way to run a kennels – but we know that your dogs and cats are the most important thing to you after your family, and that they need the best care. So we aim to give it. We would want it for our own pets!

Each cat has his or her own roomy compartment in a well-ventilated, indoor environment, where their sleeping area is protected from threat by other inmates by solid walls, but they can see out the of front and upper part of their kennel. We provide beds and “hidey boxes”, located on a raised shelf, but your cat can bring his own bed or blanket if you wish.

Food

The cats have the choice of tinned food (several varieties kept in stock) or kibble (dried food). Fresh water is available all the time. If a cat is a bit shy and unwilling to start eating we try him or her with sardines, chicken or anything which might get him started!

Health, Hygiene and Insurance

The cats have litter trays changed twice daily,. If a Vet is needed the Vet’s bill is covered by our Insurance (subject to the conditions as stated), and all animals must be accompanied by an up-to-date Vaccination Certificate.

Keeping Happy

In our cattery, the cats are not threatened by the busy comings and goings of the outside world. The cats gets personal attention and a cuddle if they are so inclined, so that your cat makes a relationship with someone and they don’t feel isolated and abandoned.

Finally ……

The methods we use are not the cheapest way to run kennels and a cattery – in fact they are very costly in materials and staff time. But we know that your dogs and cats are the most important thing to you after your family, and that they need the best care. So we aim to give it. We would want it for our own pets!
