Beginners Companion Dog Training

For dogs over the age of 17 weeks at the start

Beginners Course

Trained dogs are happy dogs, as they can be taken out with their owners, relied upon to behave and be a joy to own.

Dogs of 17 weeks up to any age start their training in a Beginners Course. This consists of one hour a week, for 9 weeks, and groups are limited to six dogs and handlers. The Course introduces all the commands which aim towards a biddable, happy companion dog.

Wait and take it

Getting Better Follow up Course

To continue your dog’s education we offer a 9 week follow up course. We recommend the two courses as a really good approach to having the dog you hoped to own and can be proud to take around.

After two courses some people have adopted dog training as a hobby and stay on for as long as they like, moving up through various classes with all sorts of projects to achieve Advanced Dog status. (read more).

Project Work for more Advanced Classes

These are things we do for the dog and handler who have adopted dog training as a hobby, and want something interesting to do once they have mastered the basic commands. It includes scent work, working to music, directional skills, retrieving and all sorts of different and intriguing projects for owners and dogs to practice. Dog training can become a hobby – as hundreds of people have discovered!  We have people who have been coming for more than 20 years (not with the same dog)!

We have two more certificates for those who have adopted dog training as a hobby, if they want to have something to work towards.

Private lessons

We arrange private lessons when either a dog or an owner needs to have time to learn independently of others, or needs to be assessed for a particular need.

This can be arranged by agreement.

Problem Behaviour

Some dogs need help which doesn’t come directly under the heading of training – house-soiling, destructiveness, aggression, fearfulness just to name a few. For these dogs and owners a longer appointment is made, the problem investigated and help and information given. A written report with a programme specially designed for the dog is sent subsequent to the interview, and a report sent to the referring Veterinary Surgeon is sent if appropriate.
